Also, a little bit about my interests and hobbies in case we have something in common.
Books
I always wish I had more time to read books. I like to read both fiction and non-fiction books, but probably my favorite is semi-fiction genre. They create space for human creativity and imagination, but also tells us truths about humanity encapsulated in certain time and space. For example, in one of the most famous historical fiction novels “War and Peace”, Leo Tolstoy provides a glimpse into the realities of 18th century Russians through fictional characters. History books tell us the stories of states, kingdoms, whereas writers and artists tells us the stories of human lives.
The Goodreads application helps me to learn about new books, keep track of the ones I’m reading and set annual reading goals. In 2023, I challenged myself to complete 18 books in a year. I really enjoyed it and found it very rewarding. So, I’ve continued the challenge for the fourth year in a row. You may find the books I read on my Goodreads bookshelves. If you have any book recommendations, I would love to hear from you.
Music
I like to think that if my life had a soundtrack it would be jazz. The unpredictable rhythms and spontaneous harmonies of jazz resonate with me, mirroring the ebb and flow of my daily life. In jazz, there’s a beautiful balance between structure and freedom, a harmony I strive to achieve in my own life. Also, the genre’s rich history of innovation and resilience inspires me to embrace change and turn each obstacle into an opportunity for growth and self-discovery.
I listen to music mostly, when I exercise, cook, work or commute. Jazz is my go to music, when I work. When I go for running I prefer techno and house music.
Running
I have always been athletically active. The return on time invested in exercise and sports is not only about physical fitness, but also valuable life lessons. Through soccer I have learned to be a team-player. Through boxing, I have learned that being unprepared can be painful. Through running I have learned to go the distance.
Since relocating to Washington DC, 3 years ago outdoor running has become my number one physical activity. Putting on an audiobook, podcast or music, and going for a run in the beautiful parks and trails of DC, is a healing time for me. It makes me feel younger and helps to decompress.
